Portal Installation Update - 1.2.2

Portal Installation Update - 1.2.2

Postby Ice on Wed Jan 02, 2008 8:04 pm

I'm no longer maintaining this branch, talk to Alexis about any bugs in phpBB3 Portal.

I've rewritten the installation xml files so they should work perfectly now, as well as included an installation xml file for subsilver2. I have also rewritten the install_portal.php file so it should now not give the errors some users have been experiencing.

Version 1.2.2
Added poll functionality.
Version 1.2.1
Fixed attachment block not showing.
Fixed attachment link.
Version 1.2.0
Recent Announcements missing.
Missing avatar in user menu.
Attachments block.
Random member with no avatar, thanks to heweaver

..I forget the rest.

Hello Ice,

Thanks for the work you are doing.
I have tried already some times to install the portal. Had some probs but mainly also because of
language I guess. What do I need to change in your compilation/rewriting to make the portal work in german?
I can also post it here afterwards if you tell me in order to allow other german users to use this portal.

Regards

Michael

Bascially you need to take what's in /language/en/portal.php and /language/en/acp/portal.php and translate that into german. Then put them in to /language/de/portal.php and /language/de/acp/portal.php.

(I'm only guessing german is de)

It's utf8 encoding, you need a text editor that is utf-8 compliant.

Thanks for the find, I've included it in with my package now. :)

Is this installation guide also applicable to upgrading from 1.0.x? If not is there any guide for an upgrade from 1.0.x to 1.1.0b?

thanks in advance.

following these instructions, I get to the DIY section....try to run install_portal.php and I get this immediately in the browser:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_CONSTANT_ENCAPSED_STRING, expecting ')' in C:\xampp\htdocs\Abomination\phpBB3\includes\functions.php on line 3358

ugh...I'm such a noob. I don't know what I'm doing wrong

Reverting back to backup again...

Could you possibly post that line and the 2 above and below it from that fine?

I've restored the backup directory tree...I will redo the steps to install the portal again and see what happens, if this error occurs again, I'll post the 2lines pre/post error. *Crosses Fingers* hopefully, it'll just work correctly this time. I'm sure it's a typo on my part since I've never done anything like this before (and probably have no buisiness trying in the first place and wasting your time here)
